Support the Cath Lab

My name is Devin Gerun. Right now in our province, someone’s father, sister, partner, uncle, or grandmother is experiencing a life-threatening situation they could never have prepared for, just like me last February.

I am 27 years old and suffered a heart attack during a playoff hockey game in LeRoy, SK. I am alive today thanks to the heroic efforts of so many health-care providers including Dr. Jason Orvold and others at Royal University Hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab; and support from donors like you.

The reason for writing to you today: Dr. Orvold and his colleagues need your help now!

Until my emergency in February 2023, I had no idea that RUH’s cardiac team performs more than 3,000 life-saving and life-enhancing heart procedures each year in the hospital’s two Cardiac Catheterization Labs, commonly known as the Cath Labs. They are fully equipped with medical imaging, x-ray equipment and state-of-the-art technology so that the cardiac team at RUH could see clearly inside my heart and repair it.

Unfortunately, the older of RUH’s two Cath Labs is nearing the end of its life. Dr. Orvold, sent a letter in November, stressing the need to replace the aging Cath Lab before it fails! He shared that the sudden loss of a Cath Lab would result in patients having to wait much longer for their outpatient procedures. He added that the overall wait list may triple for those requiring the specialized and complex cardiac care at RUH.

Will you please make a donation today to Royal University Hospital Foundation to fund the urgently needed upgrade to the hospital’s aging Cath Lab? By doing so, you will help patients like me who come to RUH for advanced cardiac care.

I was so touched to learn that Suer & Pollon Mechanical is matching your gift! Please consider taking advantage of this generous opportunity to double the impact of your donation.

Your generosity means so much to so many people when the unexpected happens.

As I headed to the hockey rink last winter, the last thing I imagined was having a heart attack. No one is ever prepared for something like that. I am grateful RUH was there for me, and I ask that you help support RUH to ensure both Cath Labs are ready for you or someone you love.

Thank you for your ongoing support of RUH and the urgent need to upgrade the Cath Lab.

Sincerely,

Devin Gerun
