Pulmonary Embolism. A blood clot in my lung creating havoc with my heart.
When I heard these words, I was shocked and terrified.
My name is Patty Timmerman and in August of 2024, I was suddenly and unexpectedly a cardiac patient.
Royal University Hospital’s Electrophysiology (EP) Lab team members—the “electricians” of the heart—need your help to replace the aging and outdated equipment they use in doing life-altering and life-saving interventional cardiac procedures.
I required the life-saving skills of cardiologist and electrophysiologist Dr. Chris Pekrul and his colleagues to correct abnormal electrical signals in my heart that were causing it to beat too fast. The reason I needed this specialized procedure was because of a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot, that had “short-circuited” the electrical flow in my heart.
Thanks to donors like you, procedures like catheter ablations, implanting of pacemakers, and mapping electrical flows in the heart have been done in the EP Lab at RUH since 2012.
Unfortunately, the technology and equipment in the EP Lab are aging, and the need for these procedures continues to increase each year, leaving residents from across the province anxiously waiting to have their procedures done at RUH.
Your donation will support the transformation of EP services at the hospital and in our province.
My family and I enjoying life after my procedure. Your gift will help ensure Dr. Pekrul and his colleagues have the most advanced state-of-the-art technology and equipment should the unexpected happen to you and your loved ones, just as it happened to me.
You will bring leading edge EP equipment to RUH, enabling EP team members to do more procedures and reduce wait times. In addition, your support will introduce new treatment options, lower medical imaging radiation doses used during procedures and help to recruit highly-specialized health-care providers to RUH.
My family and I enjoying life after my procedure. RUH needs to keep and attract the best cardiac specialists, and you can help.
I am healthy today—enjoying family, friends, outdoor activities, volunteering, and all that life has to offer—thanks to Dr. Pekrul and so many others at RUH.
They saved my life and provided me with excellent care during my time of greatest need.
I am very grateful to have had my procedure at RUH, eliminating the additional stress of travelling outside of the province for my care.
Your gift today will help improve cardiac care excellence that modern medicine demands and that patients, like you and me, deserve.
With your financial support, we will ensure the most critically ill in Saskatchewan have access to the most complex life-saving and life-improving cardiac care now and for years to come when it’s needed most, close to home at RUH.
Will you please make a gift today? On behalf of patients like me, thank you.
