The finish line is in sight! However, to cross it, we need a few more heroes like you—donors who share a vision of transforming cardiac care at Royal University Hospital. Your support today will help ensure patients with life-threatening irregular heart rhythm conditions have access to the most advanced, life-saving, minimally invasive procedures close to home at RUH.
I am Dr. Chris Pekrul, a cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist. This letter follows one you recently received from Patty Timmerman, a patient of mine who underwent a procedure earlier this year to fix an abnormal heartbeat in the hospital’s one-and-only aging Electrophysiology (EP) Lab. Unfortunately, the equipment used to perform her procedure is nearing the end of its life.
If you recently responded to Patty’s letter, my colleagues and I thank you. Your donation, regardless of the amount, will help ensure we have the newest state-of-the-art equipment available to support our cardiac patients during their time of greatest need.
As Patty wrote: “Your gift will help ensure Dr. Pekrul and his colleagues have the most advanced, state-of-the-art technology and equipment should the unexpected happen to you and your loved ones, just as it happened to me.”
Because of your generosity, we will be able to perform more pacemaker, defibrillator, and catheter ablation procedures and reduce current wait times. Last year, we performed three to four procedures daily in the EP Lab, which opened in 2012 thanks to donor support at that time.
In addition, your generous donation will enable us to introduce new treatment options for patients right here in Saskatchewan at RUH—options not widely available in Canada. It will also help us recruit highly specialized health-care providers to RUH.
Our EP Lab team members are dedicated to providing life-saving and life-altering care to patients in critical moments. Each decision we make, each procedure we perform, hinges on having the best equipment for our team. Your support is vital—not just to our team, but most importantly, to patients like Patty, whom we serve.
Your donation today will help ensure that our aging EP Lab receives the critical upgrades it needs, allowing us to continue providing world-class care at RUH for the most ill and injured patients in our province for years to come.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
Chris Pekrul
