Royal University Hospital Foundation’s 20th Anniversary “Royal Studio 54 Ball” raises $255,000 to help save lives!

SASKATOON (October 15, 2018) –  Here’s the skinny: Guests of the Royal University Hospital Foundation’s “Royal Studio 54 Ball” presented by Nutrien were taken to the max at a groovy disco era night club Saturday evening at the 20th anniversary gala event at the Delta Bessborough.

This sold out, far out event raised $255,000 (net) from sponsors, ticket purchasers and donors for a new Trauma Observation Unit at Royal University Hospital. Every dollar raised was matched up to $100,000 by Wayne Pochynuk and the Pochynuk Family of Clark Roofing.

With 60,000 emergency patients each year, Royal University Hospital is Saskatchewan’s acute care and trauma centre. It is the busiest in the province. Trauma care doesn’t stop in RUH’s Emergency Department though. It follows a trauma patient through all the stages of their stay.

Proceeds from The Royal Studio 54 Ball will equip the Trauma Observation Unit with state-of-the-art equipment.

“A dedicated Trauma Observation Unit will provide enhanced care and vital monitoring for close to 400 patients a year, who will benefit from an extended observation period before transitioning to an in-patient unit,” explained Dr. Niroshan Sothilingam, RUH’s Medical Director of the Trauma Program.

Support from the following Royal Studio 54 Ball sponsors was off-the-hook: Presenting Sponsor: Nutrien; Dinner Sponsor: SaskTel; Reception Sponsor: NexGen Energy Ltd.; Diamond Sponsors: Associated Radiologists LLP, Birks, Delta Bessborough, Handy Special Events, Novatex, RBC Wealth Management PH&N Investment Counsel, S.O. Asher Consultants LLP, and The StarPhoenix; Platinum Sponsors: Concentra Bank, Federated Co-operatives Limited, Klassique Designs, Saskatoon Fastprint, Schaan Home Healthcare, and Suncoast Enclosures.

The Royal University Hospital Foundation has been saving lives and impacting health care in Saskatchewan for 35 years. Since 1983, RUH Foundation has raised and invested, through the generosity of donors, over $130 million for innovative research, education and patient care at Royal University Hospital.
