Royal University Hospital Foundation raises over $1 Million in support of Mission Possible: Operation New O.R. Campaign

February 1, 2022

Did you know the average Canadian has three surgeries in their lifetime? In Saskatchewan, many of the most serious and specialized surgeries happen at Royal University Hospital (RUH), one of Saskatchewan’s busiest hospitals. It’s not a matter of if you or someone you love will need surgery, it’s when.

On January 27 and 28, 662 donors from all corners of Saskatchewan came together to help raise a record-breaking $1,008,960 for the RUH Radiothon, presented by Suer and Pollon Mechanical, in support of the transformation of surgical care at RUH. While our dedicated and knowledgeable surgeons, nurses and support teams at RUH are second to none, the 44-year-old operating rooms are outdated and cramped. The mission: To help raise $20 million+ through the Mission Possible: Operation New O.R. Campaign to build and equip new state-of-the-art operating rooms, reduce wait times and save and improve more lives at RUH. The Radiothon hosted by CJWW, 92.9 The BULL and 98COOL highlighted many inspiring life-saving stories from grateful patients, family members, donors, surgeons and medical team members. Each story and person helped to emphasize the need for an improved surgical experience, especially in times when surgical backlog is growing due to the impact on our Hospital caused by the pandemic.

“You never know when it might happen to you. To support this is to have that security knowing that the professionals have all they need to help you or a loved one. Thank you, medical teams, you helped get my life back,” says Susan Blum, a grateful patient.

Donor support of the Mission Possible: Operation New O.R. Campaign is vital to allow our surgical and medical teams to finally go from “making the best of it” to having the best. “A lot has changed in the last 44 years and we have to take advantage of all the technical advances that have been done in the field. RUH has amazing surgeons and surgical teams. Now we have to make sure they have the right tools and operating rooms to deliver to their full potential,” says Bill Johnson, RUH Foundation Volunteer Capital Campaign Chair.

RUH Foundation thanks its Radiothon sponsors.
